And! Today is the LAST day of my screenprint and minicomic giveaway through my store!

At the end, they recorded a few of of us talking about our impressions!

I’m behind on a ton of projects, so I haven’t had time to post my sketches yet, but you can see a sampling from a handful of the other artists over on the Portland Opera’s “Cartoonists At the Opera” page, which collects artwork (including some of mine!) from all the previous shows as well. Oh! Or you could scroll through all 400+ post compilation made of Candide being live tweeted to search for my camera phone shots of my sketches and photos.

What you see above is a collaboration between Steve Lieber (Whiteout and Underground), Benjamin Dewey (The Tragedy Series, various Star Wars stories) and me teaming up over the course of an afternoon on a blank piece of paper left on our lunch table.

From the description on Periscope’s Etsy page,

I designed the jellyfish with my (sold out) Silver Octopus design in mind, so they could be companion pieces together. You can see how they basically fill up the same shape so they can be perfect compliments to each other– or stand alone just fine as well.

Using silver ink, I silkscreened each print onto Canson indigo blue 98lb pound paper. Out of the 30 prints I created, 16 of them are 10″ x 10″ (the same size as the octopus print) and then 14 of them I printed on 8.5″ x 8.5″ paper so I could give the smaller prints away for free to the people who order my book Super Pack until May 16th.

So yeah! That is what I have been up to recently.

These hand-pulled silkscreen prints are around 8.5″ x 8.5″, though sizes will vary, and are in a limited edition of 30.

And in addition to the freebies, I’m also offering two brand new screenprints!

The Silver Jellyfish is a limited edition print of 30 copies that is silver ink on deep indigo blue 10″ x 10″ Canson paper, while the Girl and Crab is a limited edition of 20 prints that is magenta ink on 11.5″ x 15″ Arches paper.

I made her as a companion piece to Je Ne Suis Pas Un Faun, which I created in 2010. Haha, man, you can tell I used two different scanners for each of these. That is the exact same paper background in each, but no matter how much I toggled with them in Photoshop I could not get the Queen’s hue to match the Faun’s. Hrm!

I went through a couple different sketches, trying to get the face down and figure out antler design. And, of course, the original sketch for the Faun piece there to keep me focused. Originally I wanted her to have more realistic antlers, but everything I tried just looked… stupid. In the end, I wound up mirroring the Faun’s antlers on her, and making hers a bit more curlier.

My favorite part is when the figure is extracted from the rest of the paper and I can just prop them up around my house.

Like this! The Queen sits amongst my tea cups.

But then it is time to get back to business and get on with the rest of the piece. Since this was my first collage/painting in ages, I wanted to keep things simple so I just went with a decorative background paper and gold silhouette cutout to go in back of the figure.

Now is the time when I post a bunch of close ups.

But basically: the library has a messed up funding system and it is at risk of losing a significant chunk of it, causing many librarians to lose their jobs and reduce the hours of operation for the libraries.

Vote YES on 26-125 to help keep the libraries open and librarians from being laid off.
